How to Catch a Ling

Equipment
We recommend  a Glass or Composite rod (a Calstar Grafighter blank is a great selection)
7 feet in length (med/fast to med action-med to med to med-heavy
Braided line
Fluorocarbon or Cajun Red mono 40 lb. leader-(mono will withstand the abrasion of the rocks which can cut braid pretty easily)
Conventional reel  (medium/fast  retrieve)

ALWAYS BE READY ON THE DROP

With the rod tip pointing towards the water, lift the rod tip in a tight oval about 18" in diameter, with an even "pump handle" upswing and let the jig fall back to the bottom. Repeat.  Retrieve line as the jig falls back to the bottom-don't crank it in, just retrieve the slack.

ALWAYS BE READY ON THE DROP

When you get bit, set the hook hard and get that fish turned so it's head is coming up.
The main thing is to get the fish pointed toward the surface and away from the rocks.
Good luck, have fun and.....

ALWAYS BE READY ON THE DROP
