A Little About Blanks

With a Custom Rod, you have the option of choosing the material, action  and power of your blank, in a combination specific to your individual style of fishing and targeted species.

Blanks are made of:

  • Fiberglass ("glass" is the old durable standby and is used frequently depending on the use of the rod)
  • Graphite (much more flexible and sensitive than glass but is brittle and requires careful handling)
  • Composite (a fiberglass and graphite combination-more durable than graphite, more sensitive than glass)
Manufacturers use different components and construction methods which is why it is wise to let your rod builder guide you in your choice.

BLANK ACTION.....is identified by the portion of the blanks that flexes.
  • X-Fast: Upper 20% flexes
  • Fast: Upper 30% flexes
  • Med-Fast: Upper 35% flexes
  • Mod-Fast: Upper 40% flexes
  • Moderate: Middle flex point
  • Slow: Flex progressive from tip to butt
